Unity through Repentance: The Journey to Wittenberg 2017
Chapter 6
“The Guts To Go Through With It”
You’ve read Chapter 6, and you’re hungry for more pie from Marie Callender’s? Don’t worry, we got you!
Fr. Larry Mattingly, pastor of Cristo Rey
Fr. Larry played such an important role in Amy’s story.
After his time at Cristo Rey, and also a stint as pastor in San Antonio, he was transferred by the Roman Catholic church to El Paso.
We were on vacation to New Mexico in 2013, so we took the time to stop by, catch up, and take this photo. It was the last time that we saw Fr. Larry before he died.

Amy on the patio of our anniversary apartment in Huemoz, Switzerland. It was here, reading Volume VI of Will Durant's History of Civilization, that I first realized that the 500th anniversary of the Reformation would be during my lifetime. (June 2000)
While on our anniversary trip, we were careful to achieve a balanced Swiss diet of bread, cheese, chocolate, and wine.
On the way home, we visited the ecumenical community of Taizé, in France. It was during a prayer service like this one, that I heard the audible voice of the Lord, for the first and so far only time in my life. (Picture taken of a postcard we bought there)
Leaving Taizé ... Amy and I were always amused by the fact that leaving a village in Europe is announced by crossing off that village's name, as if to say, "Been there, done that"
Our family on a missions trip to Mexico with the Cristo Rey youth group, including Sister Guadalupe, in her habit (left); Jack Salazar with his wife, Yolanda (top right); Amy next to them, and me in the very back; and Nina from Amy's dream is holding our son Justus, with Peggy and Noah in front of her.
