Runaway Bay - Chapter 14

“What should I do with the rest of my life?”

I recognize that the experience Amy relates of meeting God in Galveston is quite unusual. And I don’t know what you think of it. But I will say this - I know that something happened there that changed my wife profoundly. She called me towards the end of the time, and her voice was different than I had ever heard it before - she was weeping, yes, but I could hear the awe and wonder in her voice as she related just a small part of meeting with her Creator. And it wasn’t a temporary change - she has been a different woman ever since Galveston. The insights she gained have deeply informed her life, teaching, and writing ever since. Runaway Bay would not exist without Galveston!

From the end of Chapter 14:

“How would you like to write a book together?”

Dad was intrigued, but wary. “What will we write about?” he asked.

“We will write our story,” I responded.

This photo shows Mike in our house in 2018, probably the first time he came down to write with Amy.

The fact that he traveled down from Wichita Falls to spend time with his daughter - well, that shows the transformation that was underway in his heart and life.

Mike is pictured here with Jack Cotita, who with his wife Jill was living with us at the time. Jack has since graduated to heaven, and is dearly missed by his wonderful family and many, many friends around the world.

A couple of words about this website of “bonus material” for Runaway Bay:

  • Amy didn’t create it … Thomas did. You may have already guessed that the “I” in the captions isn’t Amy, but me - her husband.
( She doesn’t really like websites. Or QR codes for that matter. Or bulleted lists like this one - a dead giveaway that she didn’t write this part. )

  • Therefore I don’t mind making the shameless plug - if you are enjoying her phenomenal book, would you be willing to put a review on Amazon? As Amy’s “publishing partner” the one surprising thing I’ve seen is this: people love her writing, and even volunteer their time to email or text her with their responses … but getting them to post a quick review on Amazon is a whole ‘nother level of hard .

Thank you so much!

Amy and I celebrating our 35th anniversary in Phoenix, Arizona.
