Runaway Bay - Chapter 6
House of My Heart
Gid with Krista and Amy in front of the Denver City house. I’m guessing that this was a Sunday, or a wedding or other special occasion, because Gid has a suit on. From the day I met Gid until the day he died, I always saw him in a one-piece jumpsuit, the kind an oilfield worker would wear on the job. When I received my first jumpsuit working for Athens Group - an oil & gas consulting company - Amy seemed pleased that I looked a little like her grandfather.
Peggy & Gid
I always knew them as Peggy and Gid, though in the book Amy calls her maternal grandmother “Mimi” as well as Peggy. They were obviously a huge influence on Amy’s life. Below are two beautiful photos of them.
The Denver City
Church of Christ
The Denver City Church of Christ played a central part of Peggy & Gid’s life in Denver City … and Mike & Geri’s … and subsequently Amy & Krista’s. You can see from the background of Mike & Geri’s wedding photo in the late 1960s, to the photo below it from 2007, that not much had changed architecturally-speaking in 40 years.
The Denver City Church of Christ was to return to Amy’s life in a significant way in the late 2000s, when she had a dream that was set there. What God brought to pass as a result of the dream changed our lives forever. You can read about it in Chapter 4 of our book Unity Through Repentance.
The House in 2007
Amy went back to Denver City in 2007.
Here is her picture of the “House of Her Heart” from the street.
A couple of words about this website of “bonus material” for Runaway Bay:
Amy didn’t create it … Thomas did. You may have already guessed that the “I” in the captions isn’t Amy, but me - her husband.
( She doesn’t really like websites. Or QR codes for that matter. Or bulleted lists like this one - a dead giveaway that she didn’t write this part. )Therefore I don’t mind making the shameless plug - if you are enjoying her phenomenal book, would you be willing to put a review on Amazon? As Amy’s “publishing partner” the one surprising thing I’ve seen is this: people love her writing, and even volunteer their time to email or text her with their responses … but getting them to post a quick review on Amazon is a whole ‘nother level of hard.

Thank you so much!
